a note from Darlene.......
These amazing animals are my life and I
work my hardest to support this rescue.  However, without the help of all of you wonderful people, I wouldn't be able to continue to operate.  Words cannot begin to describe how blessed we are to have such wonderful friends. Your loyalty inspires me.
I'd like to personally thank everyone for their support at the first Barn Dance Fundraiser. The Earth Angels and myself are very grateful and appreciate everything you have done!                          ~    Love, Darlene Nickerson

Amazing Ariel
Ariel is a small Chestnut Arabian that was gifted to me from a dear friend.  When I say gifted, I mean she is truly a gift!  You see, Ariel is completely blind.  However, don't feel sorry for this amazing girl!  The first time I met her a couple of years ago, I knew she was special, but  since joining us at BFHR, I have realized exactly how special.  She is one of the most loving and trusting horses that I have ever known. She has learned every nook and cranny of her stall and can maneuver it like a pro.  In her own paddock, just over the fence from the main herd, she walks, trots, rolls and sunbathes to her heart's content. She easily locates her water bucket and hay pile and eagerly listens for her name to be called and returns the greeting with her own very recognizable whinny.  We get out regularly for walks together and when I can, I love to ride her cautiously through the trails.  She has proven herself to be extremely intelligent and alert on our rides and I am so blessed to have earned her love and trust! Ariel is not up for adoption; she will live out her ler life at BFHR!
Welcome to the
Black Feather Horse Rescue Website!
We are a 501 (c) non-profit organization that has been in operation for over six years.  To date, we have placed over 30 horses in loving adopted homes.  We couldn't do this without the kindness and support of all the Friends of Black Feather Horse Rescue!  Thank you so much for your continued support.  All of our Equine Earth Angels
appreciate everything you do for us!

This is Austin....
a 20ish
Quarter Horse.

He was rescued by another entity and
due to unfortunate circumstances, the rescue had to
disband and Austin
was left behind but
not forgotten.

The wonderful woman who took him in
tried to do the best she could for
everyone involved.  I have learned that
at times you are helping people as much as the animal and sometimes you are just the middle person, the one who gets to place amazing animals with amazing people.
That being a true gift from  God.
Austin has a bad leg but can walk, trot
and I witnessed a gallop yesterday but
he would be best as a companion. He is gentle, smart, handsome and such a
beautiful spirit.  I am blessed to have him here to teach me what I need to learn
from this angel. He needs a loving home.

Please call if you have any questions.  I am better on the phone than the computer. Thank you!

Love and Blessings for a Happy New Year

Happy New Year!
I can't believe this month is almost over.  I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support, donations, volunteers, prayers and people that just plain cared.  I love these anmals wth all of my heart but I could not do ths alone so thank you for helping me do this work and being a part of it all.
I'd also like to introduce some of the animals that have come to live here, Louie, the rabbit who is looking for a good home.  Aya, the little dog, Scurvy the beagle mix and Boo the golden mix. All three dogs have found a home here with me and I'm enjoying their company.  Also in residence are a pair of geese and two llama who are co-habitating with my small herd of goats.  You may have met one of my goats,  I call him Bill, Billy, William and The William depending on his antics.  My newest goat who seems to be front and center is Coty the Goaty or as a dear friend calls him "Curly Stink".  He has a horn that has grown back in a curl and has an unusual aura of phew but is so cute that we overlook it.  The lastest arrival here at the rescue is an absolute joy and wonder.  Erie the mini donkey.  I've always hoped to live with a donkey and it's everything I'd hoped it would be.  He is sweet, friendly and has the cross on his back which I must say I feel so blessed to touch!  Another huge blessing is Lady, my pregnant miniature horse.  She is due in March and when I say huge I also mean literally.  I am so looking forward to visiting nursing homes with this babe when old enough.
It is time to do teeth here at the rescue. Horse's teeth can grow to have sharp edges that can cut their mouth and also cause eating difficultues,  Each horse must have their teeth filed down at least once a year.  My vet Kendyl of Highland Hill Veterinary Service will be providing this service.  Thankfully she does try to help out rescues with a discounted price as best she can.  At $80-$100 per horse this can be quite expensive.
We are planning our 4th Annual Barn Dance Fundraiser on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Plymouth Elks Lodge from 7:00-11:00 pm.  Donations of $10 person, $5 for children 12 and under will be collected at the door.  We will have music, raffles and light refreshments.   Hope you can join us!

This amazing and generous woman has been donating her time to help BFHR look for grants so that we can continue on our path of helping needy animals.  I encourage anyone in need of grant writing services to contact Heidi Mina.  We are eternally grateful for all she has done for us!
Love, respect and gratitude,
